Über Dogecoin

Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency that emerged in 2013 as a joke. It was created to satirize the expansion of altcoins by basing it on the popular "Doge" Internet meme, with the Shiba Inu as its logo. It was forked from Litecoin shares many of its features. Unlike Litecoin, however, there is no hard cap on how many Dogecoins or DOGE can be produced. The creators of Dogecoin envisaged it as a fun, light-hearted cryptocurrency with a significant appeal among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

For the most part, Dogecoin owners have used it on social media platforms, like Twitter and Reddit as a tipping system to reward the creation or sharing of quality content. Dogecoin boasts a one-minute block interval, which makes it a lot faster compared to other blockchains. As an open source peer-to-peer digital currency, Dogecoin’s price basically boils down to the interplay between demand and supply.

There have been speculations that the DOGE may yet jump in price and trump its all time high record of $0.018773 as of Jan 07, 2018. This is due, in part, to its strong fundamental features of fast speed, low transaction costs, and security, making it a more attractive crypto, even to institutional investors. Either way, it is safe to assume that even though Dogecoin started out as a joke, it has long ceased to be one.
